Every year, folks from wealthy nations travel to poor countries hoping to do good work.  All in all, it is a beautiful effort but often times it places an unnecessary burden on local infrastructure within those already struggling communities. An alternative would be to look within one’s own community or even a neighboring community that already has the infrastructure in place to receive volunteer labor.
